So the American Heart Association (AHA) recently announced they still believe that natural saturated fats are bad, bad, bad. That’s quite surprising considering all the new reviews of all relevant science showing zero evidence for that old and failed theory.
So how come the AHA still somehow manages to stay a believer? Who knows, maybe they’d rather not bite the hand that feeds them. It turns out they recently received a cool $500,000 as a little gift from the competing vegetable oil industry:

I opened my low-carb/keto clinic with Nurse Sylvie in February 2017, inside the medical clinic where I do my regular general practice. To get people to enroll, we gave a conference a few weeks before.
I don’t know if you have ever been to Quebec (Canada) in the winter, but there is nothing about a dark freezing weeknight in January to encourage anyone to leave the comfort of their homes, fireplaces and hot chocolates, to come to a free conference. Still, some brave souls did come. And of those, we started up our first two cohorts.
There is so much to learn, as a person, when we start adopting a keto diet. We read, we do self-experiments, and we progress. As doctors, though, there is a lot more to learn, and it can feel overwhelming. It’s enough to make anyone, even the most self-confident amongst us, decide to just not get started yet with patients. About six months after my husband and I starting a low-carb high-fat diet, I awoke to complete quiet. It was nearly 3:00 am, and I could only hear a clock ticking. My husband was lying beside of me, but there was no noise! The man who could wake a hibernating bear with his snoring wasn’t even breathing heavy. That’s when it occurred to me, “Was he breathing?”
I leaned over towards him but didn’t hear anything. Even though I didn’t want to wake him, worry began to rise up into fear, so I leaned closer. I felt his arm. It wasn’t cold, but it wasn’t as warm as my worry wanted it to be. I decided to feel near his face to see if warm air was coming from his nose or mouth. In the dark, as I propped up on my elbow with my right arm, I reached across to his face with my left hand, lost my balance, and accidentally popped him right in the face! Continue Reading →
